Newbold Verdon Village Profile
GENERAL
Newbold Verdon is situated about ten miles to the west of Leicester and only three miles from the bustling town of Market Bosworth.
The village was mentioned in the Domesday Book as Niwebold and it didn't acquire it's full name until 1226 when one Nicholas de Verdon took ownership of the manor. An outbreak of cholera put the village into quarantine in 1428 but the village soon recovered and continued as a sleepy agricultural spot until the 1950's with the expansion of coal mining in the area. When this industry ceased in 1984, Newbold Verdon became a commuter village. The parish also includes Newbold Heath to the north and Brascote to the south.
